2022 Barra Kings - 'Bastard Smith Brothers'

We asked our 2022 Barra Kings a few questions about the tournament, here’s what they had to say…

1. How did you first hear about SCF?

  • Facebook and friends talking about this new fishing event coming to rocky.

2. What made you attend your first SCF event?

  • 2019 (I think it was) at Gracemere was my first king of kings. At the time the area was crying out for more fishing-related events, particularly an event that was inclusive of families and bait fishos alike.

3. How many different SCF events have you attended in total?

  • We have attended 3 King of kings events so far and it's gonna take something serious to stop us from attending more

4. What was your goal for this year’s competition?

  • We love our offshore fishing so the goal was big reds, trout, and nannies as well as being competitive across a few other species. The weather as we know didn't play the game this year so we had to adapt and change targets.

5. How did you prepare yourself to achieve this goal?

  • Well with plan A getting blown away we pulled some local knowledge out of the diary and went fishing where and how the conditions allowed us.

6. What is your favorite part of the event as a whole?

  • Definitely the social side, the event brings fishos from all across Qld. From youtube stars to average blokes that love having a beer and a yarn. For the most part, this event is the only time you will get to meet and talk face to face with these people.

7. What does it mean to you to be crowned the Barra Kings?

  • It means a lot. We're lucky to call Central Queensland home some may even call it the barra capital of Queensland thanks to the net free zones, with anglers traveling from all over the place to try to catch a CQ barra so to be able to win that award in our own back yard is very humbling.

8. What tips can you give to people entering an SCF event for the first time?

  • Definitely talk to as many people as you can, if you haven't fished this area before it’s an absolute must. Everyone will be more than willing to offer advice tips and tricks to land a few fish. Say G'day have a beer or 20 & probably don’t plan to work on the Monday after presso  🍻

9. What are the key reasons you continue to return each year?

  • Other than it being a kick ass event we have a title to defend now 😂 oh and the great Northerns at the Beaches venue are the coldest on the Capricorn Coast and the Parilla is mouth-watering.

10. Is there anything you would like to see changed/improved for next years event?

  • All in all its a great run event....2 potential changes maybe a 3 fish bag with a lot of teams having 3 people it allows everyone to have a chance of weighing a fish in and make it more rewarding for the team catching 3 average size fish to beat he gun guru cat hang 1 trophy ....and the second perhaps have the event over Wednesday night for briefing, fishing Thursday Friday Saturday with presso on Saturday night....would give people the chance to really unwind Saturday night with out the hassle of having to work the next morning. Would work well for the travelling anglers too. Sleep in till lunch then head home.

Bring on next year's event we can't wait 🍻🍻
