Held over the first week in September 2026, the Samaki King of Kings saltwater fishing tournament will host; boat, kayak, shore, bait/lure, spear and free-diving fishermen from over Australia. Anglers of all ages and skill levels will compete from midnight Tuesday 1st September to 10am Friday 4th September, recording their success via SCF and will share in over $80,000+ worth of cash prizes and giveaways.

Fishing will commence at midnight on the Monday. There are 20 inshore/offshore species on the target list, when a competitor lands a fish, they take a photo of it on the JSW brag mat supplied and upload it to the ‘SUBMIT’ section in SCF Members. The website will incorporate LIVE scoreboards that update in real time and display the current leader for each category, as well as the size of their catch.
Everyone must gather at Tallebudgera Surf Club on the Tuesday evening to collect their tournament packs, confirm participant registration and attend the briefing/presentation. There will be some entertainment, as well as product displays and demonstrations by various businesses in the industry and competition partners. Fishing stops at 10am on Friday which means you must get your ‘lines out of the water’ and begin heading back to the ramp which will be followed by a presentation at the Tallebudgera SLC where the winners will be awarded their prizes and the Kings will be Crowned. The presentation will begin at 1pm, Friday the 4th and be followed by a celebration with the award winners and everyone involved.

The combined length of your teams 2 biggest fish for each species will be your ‘bag’ length. Our software will automatically update your bag lengths as you enter all the fish you catch into SCF

Free divers and spear-fishers can compete for the Mahi Mahi, Cobia, Amberjack, Kingfish, Tuna, Mulloway, Cod, and mackerel categories during the tournament. Fishers are encouraged to report non-target catches to assist with data collection. Please remember to only take what you need.

Fishing times
- You can be at your spot/location and ready to start fishing at midnight on Monday night after the briefing! ‘Lines in the water’ starts at midnight Monday.
- Fishing finishes at 10am on Thursday. That means your fishing lines must be out of the water and all fish submitted at 10am on Thursday.

- 6:30pm. Competition briefing begins. All competitors must be present.

Fishing Methods
All recreational fishing methods excluding nets are valid including:
Rod and Reel (all line classes)
Bait and Artificial Lures (including live bait and trolling)
Free dive
Spear
All fishing vessel classes are accepted
Land based
Non powered (Kayaks, Paddle board, etc)
Powered Vessels
Jet Ski
Dangerous Fish
It is possible that fishers may encounter highly dangerous species such as Stonefish. All competitors should:
Wear solid soled shoes such as wet boots if fishing in water
Cut the line – do not attempt to land
Protected Fish
The Queensland Fisheries website lists species that are protected in Queensland waters such as Queensland Groper. These species are not eligible for the competition and should not be targeted.
Measuring Finfish
All finfish should be measured to length over all with the fish in a natural position. Do not squash the tail to extend the length as fish measured this way will not qualify. Accurate length of fish is important for data analysis.
Notes on Qualifying Species
Bream– All variants of Bream (including Tarwhine) qualify in the Bream class. Seabream (such as Blubberlips) do not qualify. The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Flathead – All variants of Flathead qualify in the Flathead class. The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Snapper – The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Mangrove Jack - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Barramundi - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Salmon - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Mulloway - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Mahi Mahi - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Amberjack - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Kingfish - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Cobia - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Giant Herring - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Tailor - The largest 2 count towards the bag.
Dart - All variants of Dart, including Subnose qualify in the Dart class.The largest 2 count towards the bag.

Dispute Resolution
Any dispute or breach of the competition rules will be determined and adjudicated by SCF representatives whose decision will be final. A proven breach may result in loss of competition points or disqualification.
