2022 Gt Kings - '23 South Lures'

We asked our 2022 GT Kings a few questions about the tournament, here’s what they had to say…

1- How did you first hear about SCF?

  • From the advertising for the first KoK event

2- What made you attend your first SCF event?

  •  It was local and specifically, it was chasing GT's, a fave fish of ours to chase over the years.  We thought we had the local knowledge to get the win.

3- How many different SCF events have you attended in total?

  • Three now, all KoK in Yeppoon

4- What was your goal for this year’s competition?

  • To win the GT category

5- How did you prepare yourself to achieve this goal?

  • Checked the tide times for the comp and compared them against our previous GT capture records (tide times and movements were within centimetres and half an hour of 2019 when we won the first comp and we had our capture notes from then).  Come up with a plan of attack (what spot, at what time of the tide, where to move to next).  Come up with contingency plans for weather etc.  We're making our own lures at the moment as well, so we had a special batch ready for the comp.  Spend too much money on new gear in the lead-up...

6- What is your favourite part of the event as a whole?

  • It's the planning, then executing the plan, and having a good fish hit the brag mat.  Great feeling to have a photo of a good fish ready to submit in the app and on socials.

7- What does it mean to you to be crowned the GT Kings?

  • It's a great feeling - because there are so many good teams.

8- What tips can you give to people entering an SCF event for the first time?

  • Have a plan, but be flexible.  And join in the social aspect - there are lots of people keen to chat and socialise.

9- What are the key reasons you continue to return each year?

  • Gotta try and keep the title in the hands of locals!  Can't have it getting into the hands of the Insta-crew for too long haha.  It makes for a fun rivalry and it's good to be a part of the comp since the start and to see it growing.

10- Is there anything you would like to see changed/improved for next years event?

  • Positives - the meal and location is always great.  Check in this year went pretty smooth.  The prizes and give-aways you manage to organise each year are amazing.  You guys obviously work really hard to deliver the event and it goes smoother each year.  It is a great opportunity to meet people - the social side of things is great.  Having the results handled directly by the info-fish team and not going through you guys first was a massive positive also in my opinion.

Check out the fish that won the boys $5000 CASH MONEY!!

This is actually the second GT title for one member of the 23 South Lures team, Warrick was crowned our first ever GT King back in 2019 before the competition was changed into a teams event! Check out what he had to say after being crowned the first GT King!
